Conversation with Cees Nooteboom

Cees Nooteboom was born in The Hague in 1933, and now lives in Amsterdam and on the island of Minorca. He is one of Europe’s most elegant stylists, novelists and travel writers whose books include Roads to Santiago (1997) All Souls’ Day (2001), The Foxes Come at Night (2011) and Roads to Berlin (2012). He has received many awards, among which the Dutch Literature Prize and the German Order of Merit for Roads to Berlin.

In his latest book, looking towards the Mediterranean, Cees Nooteboom writes letters to the God of the Sea. Full of elegant reflections on human existence, erudite references to literature and history and playful musings, Letters to Poseidon takes the reader on a dazzling journey across continents.
