On 13 March 2020 the Council of State of the Canton of Vaud mandated a series of measures to counter the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. « Literary meditation on the end of life »
with readings in Portuguese and French

The writer in residence Susana Moreira Marques’ first book, Now and at The Hour of Our Death (in the English translation), is a meditation on the end of life. Blending travel writing, aphorisms and oral memory, it has been described as poetic non-fiction or philosophical reportage. The author will be discussing her work process. How can we make public the most intimate subjects, like dying or giving birth (motherhood is the subject of her forthcoming book)? How do we thread the fine line of turning real people’s stories into literature?

Susana Moreira Marques will be reading from the  original version in Portuguese. And her translator Elisabeth Monteiro Rodrigues, former resident at the Foundation, will be reading from the French version, Maintenant et à l’heure de notre mort.
