The Elemental treehouse

Alejandro Aravena, curator of the XV Venice Architecture Biennale and winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2016, was entrusted with the construction of a treehouse where the staff of the Foundation and the writers in residence could gather together and share their meals.
The Chilean architect, known for his ecological and social approach, and who has distinguished himself in his country by making “half-houses” that can be completed by their occupants, relied on the competences of the Swiss cabinet +2 Architects, with Joanne Villa and Alexandre Gobbini, to carry out his project in Montricher.
This treehouse rests on a concrete slab, itself held by a transverse beam in weathering steel the end of which is attached to the canopy. Wood and glass dominate here, a granite floor highlighting the structure of the wooden shelves that gives its framework to the cabin.
Three distinct areas follow one another in succession, the kitchen with a large central island, the dining room and a seating area that can be isolated using sliding doors.

The architectural firm Elemental is located in Santiago, Chili. The firm is headed by the 2016 Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alejandro Aravena.
